MTN Tariff Plans: Codes, Benefits, and How to Migrate

If you have been using MTN Nigeria for more than a few months, there is a strong chance you are not on the most suitable tariff plan for your calling, data, and recharge habits.

From my experience working closely with telecom subscribers across Nigeria, about 6 out of every 10 MTN users are either on an outdated plan or a plan that silently drains their ₦1,000 to ₦5,000 monthly without them realizing it.

As of 2026, MTN has refined its tariff portfolio to focus on value, usage-based rewards, and fairness policies introduced by the NCC.

These plans now determine how much data you get per ₦100, how many seconds you talk per ₦50, and even how long your bonus lasts, sometimes 7 days, sometimes 30 days, depending on the plan.

In this guide, I will walk you through MTN tariff plans in a clear, street-smart way. You will see the codes, the benefits, real usage estimates, and how to migrate without stress or hidden charges. Let’s start properly.

MTN Pulse Tariff Plan

MTN Pulse remains one of the most talked-about tariff plans in Nigeria as we move deeper into 2026. Officially, MTN markets Pulse as a youth-focused plan, but in reality, anyone between 18 and 45 who uses data heavily benefits from it.

On average, Pulse users save between 20 percent and 35 percent monthly compared to standard plans, especially if they spend ₦3,000 to ₦10,000 on data.

With MTN Pulse, calls are billed at approximately 11 kobo per second, which means a 5-minute call costs around ₦33 instead of ₦45 on older plans.

Data-wise, Pulse users can access special bundles like 500MB for about ₦300 and 1GB for roughly ₦500 during promotional windows. Over a 30-day period, that can translate to almost 40 percent more data.

Migration is simple and costs about ₦100 if you are switching within 30 days. For students, freelancers, and social media users, this plan makes financial sense.

MTN BetaTalk Tariff Plan

MTN BetaTalk is built for subscribers who recharge frequently and make regular voice calls. As of 2026, BetaTalk still offers up to 200 percent bonus on every recharge, but this bonus is split between airtime and data usage.

In real terms, if you recharge ₦1,000, you could receive a total value close to ₦3,000, though with conditions attached.

Here is how the value usually breaks down in practice. About ₦1,000 stays as main balance, ₦1,000 becomes bonus airtime, and ₦1,000 is often restricted to data usage.

The bonus airtime typically expires within 7 days, which means heavy callers benefit more than occasional users.

For someone spending ₦500 daily on calls, BetaTalk can reduce monthly call expenses by nearly ₦6,000. Migration is done via USSD and usually free if you have not changed plans in the last 30 days. The key is discipline, use the bonus fast or lose it.

MTN XtraSpecial Tariff Plan

MTN XtraSpecial is the calm, predictable option for subscribers who hate surprises. In 2026, this plan is favored by professionals, business owners, and older users who prioritize billing clarity over bonuses.

Calls are charged at a flat rate of about 15 kobo per second, meaning a 10-minute call will cost roughly ₦90, regardless of time or network.

Unlike bonus-driven plans, XtraSpecial does not confuse users with multiple balances. What you recharge is what you spend.

For people making 300 to 600 minutes of calls monthly, this stability can save between ₦2,000 and ₦4,000 compared to bonus plans where unused bonuses expire.

Data rates are standard, averaging ₦1,000 for 1GB, but the advantage is transparency. Migration costs around ₦100 if done within a month of your last change. If you value peace of mind and predictable bills, this plan delivers exactly that.

MTN TruTalk Tariff Plan

MTN TruTalk is one of those plans many Nigerians overlook, yet it quietly delivers value for people who talk a lot.

As of 2026, TruTalk focuses mainly on voice calls, especially long conversations that run into 10 minutes, 20 minutes, or more.

Calls are billed at about 14 kobo per second, which means a 20-minute call costs roughly ₦168, compared to ₦210 on some other plans. Over a month, that difference can save an average caller between ₦3,000 and ₦5,000.

The plan does not rely on flashy bonuses or complicated rewards. What you recharge is what you use.

Data prices are standard, around ₦1,000 per 1GB, so this plan is not ideal for heavy streaming or downloads.

TruTalk works best for traders, customer care agents, and professionals who spend at least 60 percent of their airtime budget on calls. Migration is done via USSD, and the fee is usually ₦100 if you recently switched plans.

MTN Y’ello Star Tariff Plan

MTN Y’ello Star is more than just a tariff plan, it is a loyalty-based system that rewards consistent usage.

In 2026, MTN has improved this plan to encourage subscribers who recharge between ₦2,000 and ₦10,000 monthly. The more you recharge and use your line, the higher your reward tier, silver, gold, or platinum.

At higher tiers, users enjoy call rates as low as 11 kobo per second and periodic data bonuses ranging from 250MB to 2GB monthly.

For example, a platinum user spending about ₦8,000 monthly could receive benefits worth ₦1,500 to ₦2,500 without paying extra. These bonuses usually last between 7 and 14 days, so timely usage matters.

Y’ello Star suits loyal MTN users who want gradual rewards rather than instant bonuses. Migration is automatic for eligible users, while manual activation may cost about ₦100 if required.

MTN XtraValue Tariff Plan

MTN XtraValue is designed for subscribers who want balance. As of 2026, this plan automatically converts your recharge into a mix of data and airtime.

When you recharge ₦1,000, for example, you might receive about ₦500 worth of data and ₦500 for calls. This structure helps users control spending and avoid finishing airtime too quickly.

Call rates average around 15 kobo per second, while data allocation varies based on ongoing promotions.

For moderate users spending ₦3,000 to ₦6,000 monthly, XtraValue can stretch usage by up to 25 percent compared to traditional plans. The downside is reduced flexibility, you cannot freely move value between data and airtime.

This plan works well for office workers and small business owners who rely equally on calls and internet access. Migration is simple, with a standard fee of about ₦100 if applicable.
